If you love Alice in Wonderland, you will want to step into it at the Mad BatterTea Room & Cafe in Blue Point. This Alice in Wonderland inspired, Victorian era venue has a whimsical atmosphere with personality in every detail. The walls are covered with sayings, images, and all sorts of artifacts. The tables are set with Victorian era place settings and many knick-knacks as well. There is so much to see, it’s like being inside of a storybook.
Before you get inside, however, take note that one has to step up from the parking lot to the concrete sidewalk in front of the single door entrance. Unfortunately, there is no curb cut, or designated accessible parking spaces in the lot.
Once you get in, you are immediately transported into this magical world. The front room has a full-height bar, as well as tables that are ready for private events.
The next room is the large, main dining area. It was difficult to sit down, as we wanted to walk around and look at every detail that adorns the walls. Magic!
It was nice to see that there were many large, round tables. This is such a nice touch for a party of six or eight (or more), so that everyone can see and converse with everyone else.
The tables are beautifully set as well. The vintage china settings were on holiday tablecloths, to go along with all of the holiday decorations that added yet more festivity to the tea room. There is adequate space to navigate throughout.
When we finally got around to ordering, we had a large variety of items to choose from, , from tea service to traditional lunch items. We opted for the traditional tea service, which was lovely. It’s nice that there are options to choose from. The large variety of teas made it difficult to decide.. We loved that, whichever tea we choose, the ceramic teapot came on a warmer, which kept the tea hot for our entire meal.
We would be remiss not to mention our lovely server, who was very gracious as well as helpful.
An extra special treat was a gentlemen at a keyboard, who entertained us with holiday favorites. It made the atmosphere even more festive.
There is one thing you need to know about accessibility in the restrooms. They are single-occupancy and do have bars for those need them, The sink, however, is not wheelchair accessible. A wheelchair user can get part way under the sink, but not completely under.
Usually, we tell you to check a venue’s website, when planning a visit, to learn more about the venue. You cannot do this with the Mad Batter because they do not have a website. So, if you want/need more info, please call them at (631) 363-3100. PS. You need to make a reservation!
