Looking at Popei’s, Bethpage, from outside, doesn’t do it justice. Located in a strip mall on North Wantagh Avenue in Levittown, one would not think the experience would be anything other than ordinary.  Well, you would be wrong!  Our dining experience was extraordinary.  From the warm, friendly service to the exquisite food, Popei’s is a real “find” for us. Popei’s, Bethpage has been family owned and operated for 30 years. They should be there for at least another 30!

Because it always crowded (reservations definitely recommended), there is valet parking. I think I saw two accessible spaces in the paved, parking lot.

The street-level, single door leads to a small entry and another door to get inside.

The ambiance is not fancy, but warm and friendly. As soon as we sat down we were greeted and served delicious garlic bread. The bread is just the introduction to the wonderful food to follow.

Smooth wood covers the floors. Seating is at tables and armless chairs, with one booth in the corner. There is a full-height bar and hi-top tables in the bar area.

The menu is incredibly large. The variety of seafood is staggering, making it really difficult to make a decision.  Our party of six had Linguine with Clam Sauce, Linguine with the works, Shrimp Scampi, Sesame Crusted Tuna and Shrimp, and Salmon.  Everything was spectacular!

Our server was delightful, helpful and professional, making sure that everything was to our liking (It surely was!)

Single occupancy, accessible restrooms are located in the rear of the bar area.  The restrooms themselves are great – including the baby-changing station.  The real problem is getting to the restrooms.  In order to get to them one must navigate between the bar and high-top tables, which is a rather narrow space.  A wheelchair may have a difficult time passing. It would be great if they could rearrange this area to make it more accessible to those with mobility limitations.

All in all, Popei’s was a win for us!

As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.popeisbethpage.com, when planning a visit, to learn more.
