I don’t know if My Grandmother’s Kitchen in Farmingdale is a hidden gem or not,  I only know that I just discovered it and think it is a gem!  It is located on Main Street in Farmingdale, literally next to the LIRR train tracks. During the day there is free parking in the paved lot across the street.

The street-level, single door entrance takes you to an entranceway and another single door, where you will find two steps up.  There is an accessible entrance on the right side of the building, but you need to alert someone in the restaurant that you need it opened. It would be great if they could add a button or ringer to alert the staff that someone needs that entrance. It would also be great if they had signage about the accessible entrance.

That being said, we still found this venue to be terrific. Charming decor, with great quotes give it a comfortable atmosphere, kind of like being at your grandmother’s house!  We found the  mood warm and cozy. The main level is not very large, but there is adequate space to navigate.  Seating is at tables and armless chairs.  There is a large upstairs area, but you need to be prepared to go up 14 steps. If making a reservation, be sure to tell the person taking your reservation that you need the main level!

We made it upstairs, where it was still “homey.”

The extensive menu has a great variety of breakfast and lunch choices.  As we ordered omelettes, we oogled the pancakes, French Toast, and other delicious looking items passing by. Maybe next time!  Don’t get me wrong, our omelettes were delicious, and quite large.

Our server was lovely and helpful, making sure that all was OK with our coffee, etc.

An single occupancy restroom on the main floor has an accessible toilet. Unfortunately, the sink is not accessible for a wheelchair user. All of the accessories are at a good level for everyone.

We loved being reminded of our grandmothers’ kitchens at My Grandmother’s Kitchen.

As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.mygrandmotherskitchenny.com, when planning a visit, to learn more.
