After our visit to Mashomack Preserve and a drive around Shelter Island, it was time for some lunch.
Working our way back to the ferry we found ourselves at The Islander. This casual looking venue seemed to be a perfect fit for the Island. Although not on the water, they do have outdoor seating at picnic tables and benches.
We found a sign indicating an accessible space in the gravel parking lot.
We made our way up the ramp to the single door entrance, entryway and another single door to the the restaurant itself.
Looking around, we saw that The Islander is spacious for easy navigation. There are booths, tables and chairs (armless), and a counter, if you prefer.
The vibe is casual, yet cozy. The “island colors” add to the ambiance. It gives one a welcome feeling.
We were warmly greeted and told to sit anywhere we wished.
Since it was rather late for lunch, there were only a few patrons.
We made our way to a booth and proceeded to peruse the rather large menu. There is a good variety of offerings. Our choices of Fish and Chips, and a Chicken Cobb Sandwich turned out to be perfect! We were able to enjoy our lunch in a pleasant, un-rushed manner.
The single-occupancy restroom is accessible.
The Islander was a perfect place for a lovely lunch on Shelter Island.
