If you don’t need an accessible restroom, and can negotiate the high step up to the area where the restrooms are, Nicky’s Clam Bar could be a good place to get something to eat. Whether you are going to, or coming from Fire Island, Nicky’s is there just across from the terminal for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
We found two accessible spaces just in front of the street-level, single door main entrance. We were told that there is more parking in the ferry lot. Since we were there for breakfast, we were able to get a spot.
We noticed that you can get “take-out” for your ferry trip, sit outside, under cover, or indoor in the nautical-themed dining room.
We were greeted warmly and had our choice of seats. Tables and chairs (with arms), plus a full-height bar are located here. It was breakfast for us, an egg sandwich and an egg platter were good choices. Excellent coffee made the breakfast complete. Pleasant service made it even better.
If you choose to sit outside, under cover, there are tables and chairs there as well.
Unfortunately, the restrooms are not accessible at all. There is a high step to get to the hallway where the restroom is located. The restroom itself is rather small. There are no handrails and the sink is not accessible either. There is no way to accommodate a wheelchair.
As we stated earlier, if you can manage without an accessible restroom, Nicky’s is a nice place for some food before, or after, your ferry ride.
As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.nickysclambar.com, to learn more about the venue.
