Kurofune has been a staple in Commack since 1981. Regrettably for us, we only discovered it recently. But now that we have, we will certainly be regulars. It serves “fresh and high-quality ingredients…and provides your taste buds the best experience of food.” (website)
With fabulous food , and amazing service, why would you go anywhere else?
You could have a problem if you have a mobility limitation that won’t allow you to manage the step that is necessary to reach the restroom. The restroom itself is large, with a bar on one side of the toilet. The other unfortunate item is that the sink is not wheelchair accessible.
If you enter from the main entrance, there is a stone ramp to the single door entrance. There are no steps to contend with unless you need to use the restroom. If you enter from the rear entrance, you must go up one step to reach the main level.
If you can manage the items just mentioned, you could not do better than Kurofune.
Parking is easy in the large, paved lot, with two accessible spaces.
Once inside, the restaurant is cozy, yet roomy enough to navigate. There is a full-height sushi-bar, and an outdoor patio. The patio is accessible from the dining room. From the street there are several steps to access it.
Everyone working here makes you feel comfortable. Everyone seems truly happy to be serving you their delicious food and wanting to please.
As we said earlier, the problem occurs when getting to the restroom. There is what I would describe as a step up to a platform going from one end of the hallway to the other – from the front of the restaurant to almost the rear. The single-occupancy restroom is located here. It is a large room with a handrail, but the sink is not wheelchair accessible.
If you can manage these things we highly recommend Kurofune.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.kurofunenewyork.com, when planning a visit, to “know more before you go.”
