Flora’s Pizza Cafe, Syosset, cannot be seen from Jericho Turnpike. It is located in a strip mall just west of Route 135. The names of the stores are listed on the sign, but you must drive in to actually see this small gem of a restaurant.
Accessible parking is readily available in the paved, parking lot. Flora’s may be hard to spot, but definitely worth the trip. We had heard about it from several people and decided to try it with some friends.
Reservations were a must, as this is a very small venue that many people want to visit.
Bricks are in front of the street-level, single door. There are several outdoor tables just in front of the restaurant.
Once inside, you can see just how small it is. If it weren’t so crowded I would describe it as very “cozy.” It is very “tight” to get to any of the tables. It is doable, but you must be prepared to have diners move if you need to get through with a walker or wheelchair. We would highly recommend you speak with someone on the phone to tell them about your specific situation and needs.
That being said, the hostess was lovely, as was our server. Even though our Chicken Paillard, Chicken Milanese and Pasta Bolognese were all delicious, it was hard to want to linger with all the activity going on. The younger set would probably describe it as “lively.” We will definitely be back at a quieter time.
There is a single-occupancy, accessible restroom in the rear. It was nice to see that the mirror was tipped so that a wheelchair user would have no difficulty using it.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.floraspizzacafe.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
