Ruvo takes its name from a small hill town in Southern Italy, the ancestral home to part of the family that owns this lovely restaurant.
There is a parking lot in the rear of the building (off of Smith Street). It is unfortunate that there are no accessible spaces in this lot. If someone needs to be dropped off, there is a bench on Broadway, outside the building.
After entering the street-level, single door entrance, you are in a small entryway and then another single door to the restaurant itself. Once inside you are treated to a Tuscan feel, with soft lighting and live greenery. I read that the full-height wood bar and cabinetry were built by the brothers using wood from their uncle’s barn. Besides the bar area there are two dining areas, making each of them a somewhat intimate setting. Tables are well-spaced, making navigation and conversation easy. I understand that there is outdoor dining during warm weather.
A friend and I met here for lunch. Having never been to Ruvo before, I was pleasantly surprised by the extensive lunch menu and the prix fix lunch that is also available. If you go for lunch, make sure to take a look at the prix fix menu – it is quite good. On our server’s suggestion we both had the Eggplant, Tomato bisque. It was delicious! The Spinach and Artichoke Flatbread, and the Caprese Panini were both excellent choices! I would be remiss if I did not mention our lovely server, who, not only suggested the Bisque, but was quite pleasant and also made sure that we were well taken care of.
Single-occupancy, accessible restrooms are located in the hallway. The sinks are accessible as well. It would be a bit better if the mirror was tilted to accommodate wheelchair users. There are no baby-changing facilities.
All in all, this was a wonderful, relaxing lunch. We will definitely return. We will also have to check out their Port Jefferson location.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.ruvorestaurant.com, when planning a visit to “know before you go.”
