Wanting to try something different for lunch, we decided on Izumi, Commack. We probably never would have noticed it, because it is tucked into a corner of a shopping area (Commack Corners), next to Five Guys. We have noticed it when going into Five Guys, and each time say that we should try it. Now that we have been there we will definitely be back. Izumi offers a combination of Hibachi, Sushi and Traditional Japanese choices in a fun setting.
There are four accessible spaces very close to the street-level, double door entrance. Once inside you are treated to a very pleasant waterfall feature, where a little girl was making a wish and throwing her money in.
From here another set of double doors lead you to the “sushi side” of the restaurant. There is a large waiting area here. We were greatly warmly by a young lady who asked us if we wanted Sushi or Hibachi. Since we hadn’t had Hibachi in quite a while we decided to go for it, and followed her into the large Hibachi area. FYI, the traditional dining area is quite lovely, with booths, banquettes, a sushi bar, and a full-height bar for drinks. There is ample room for navigation.
Being on the late side for lunch ( 2:15 pm) we were the only ones at our Hibachi table. We were able to have a drink and place our order before our Chef arrived to make our meal. Hibachi is always a show as well as food and even though we were the only ones at our table, the chef did a nice job of entertaining us! Our choices of shrimp and scallops were each quite good. If you want a little entertainment along with your food, this is a lovely way to do it.
The multi-stall restrooms are easy to push open. There is a large, accessible stall, and accessible sinks. There is also a baby-changing station.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to check a venue’s website, www.izumicommack.com, to “know before you go,”
