Many years ago, when our kids were kids, we frequented Friendly’s on Jericho Turnpike, Syosset. Friendly’s is gone and a lovely, new venue has taken its place, Hilltop Kitchen & Bar.
It’s appropriate that you need to drive up the hill to reach the Hilltop parking and restaurant. Three accessible spaces are close to the “street-level,” double door entrance. Wonder if that’s how it got its name? Once inside the double doors there is a small entryway and a single door to the welcome area. In case you need to wait there is a nice bench here.
The decor is lovely, modern, yet low key. Although it is a large space, it is defined into several areas, all with ample space for navigation. Seating is at tables, booths, banquettes and a full-height bar. A fireplace is a definite plus for me! An outdoor area is ready for warm weather. It is obvious that there was a lot of attention to detail in the design. I even loved the coffee cups and other items on the table.
Their website states that their aim is “…to give our patrons a feel good experience while offering locally sourced craft food and cocktails in a warm and inviting dining atmosphere.” Based on our experience they have succeeded!
Everyone we interacted with was welcoming and pleasant, from the person who welcomed us, to our especially kind server, Rosa, the busboys, and even the several people I asked questions of. My better half almost always orders a burger. He found it to be perfectly done. His “dirty” fries ( seasoned with a combination of “ingredients from the four corners of the world” ) were excellent. My Cobb salad was not only delicious, but easily large enough for two to share ( or for one to have lunch the next day).
Multi-stall restrooms have large, accessible stalls and accessible sinks. Unfortunately, there are no baby-changing facilities.
Everything about our visit was great. We will definitely be back to try other things. Try it! We’re sure you won’t be disappointed!
As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to visit a venue’s website, www.hilltopkitchenandbar.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
