We had never been to an escape room. That changed on February 19th when five of us ( ages 8 – 80) went to “Just Escape,” in Massapequa. We made our reservation for the “easiest” room, thinking we wouldn’t have any trouble getting “out” within the 60 minutes allowed. We were wrong! Even with the clues that we were given by our “Game Master,” on the monitor in the room, we would probably still be there if we weren’t “rescued” by her.. Even though we didn’t “escape” it was a fun thing to do.
Just Escape, “offers an environment where friends, families and co-workers can come together for an interactive, unique and intellectually challenging experience.” One has to “solve puzzles, find clues and decode locks to escape one of the fully themed rooms…” (website)
The paved parking lot has two accessible spaces near the ramp, which leads to the hallway inside. From the hallway it is easy to get to the welcome room. Otherwise there are six steps to reach the double door main entrance. We were greeted and escorted to the waiting area for our time. Seating is available. While we waited we noticed a large room that is used for birthday parties, etc.
When our time came, we were escorted to our room and given instructions about what we needed to do to escape. Our “Slime Island” room was smaller than we thought it would be. I was told that all of the rooms are approximately the same size. The room is allowed to have a maximum of 10 people, but I don’t think that 10 would fit comfortably and be able to search for clues, unlock locks, etc. A countdown clock is shown on the monitor, and you are able to ask for clues along the way.
Although we didn’t “conquer” we were able to take some photos in the photo area. We will try again!
There are two, large, accessible, single-occupancy restrooms near the party room.
Just Escape says that they have “…the most rooms on Long Island…” However, only two of them are accessible, as the others are on the lower level, with steps the only way to get there. If accessibility is an issue for anyone in your group, make sure to check on this detail.
As always, we at Destination Accessible, advise you to check a venue’s website, www.justescapeli.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.” Sometimes a phone call would be wise as well (516) 809-8980.
