The Bow Tie Cinemas is a theater chain with a few locations on Long Island. The one I am reviewing today is located on Plandome Road in Manhasset. I have met friends here many times because it is centrally located between eastern and western Nassau County on the North Shore. It is a lovely theater that features movies not usually shown in the large multiplexes.
The parking is in municipal lots and on some streets. Plandome Road has parking restrictions, so read the signs. Entry to the theater is through double doors and the ticket booth is right there. If your friend is late in arriving, there are seats in the lobby. The floor is carpeted and there is a slight incline up to the ticket taker. If you enjoy treats while watching movies, there is a well-stocked concession stand selling all movie snacks including my favorite, little ice cream bites.
The two screening rooms on the first floor are handicapped accessible. There are a few rows with wheelchair companion seats. I love the seats in this theater. They are very comfortable with well-padded seats, cup holders and room for your legs. The aisles to the rows are wide.
If you need a restroom after drinking a very large beverage, they are close by. In addition to the regular restrooms, there is a separate single occupancy handicapped restroom with handrails and a sink.
There is another screening room upstairs that is accessible only by a staircase. Bow Tie’s website states, “This location is not completely handicap accessible. Please call the theater to find out what films are playing in an accessible auditorium. Take advantage of Bow Tie Cinemas movie rotation program by contacting the theater management in advance to request that a movie be placed in a handicap accessible auditorium at a mutually convenient show time.”
I think that the above statement shows how accommodating the management is. The ticket prices are also less than at a multiplex.
As always, we at Destination Accessible advise you to check a venue’s website, www.bowtiecinemas.com, when planning a visit, to “know before you go.”
